From Slaughterhouse to Vegan Advocate: Susana Chavez's Mission in Richmond

Susana Chavez, an animal rights activist with Direct Action Everywhere, organizes a monthly Vegan Pop-up Market in Richmond, California, in collaboration with 7 Stars Holistic Healing Center. The event aims to promote veganism and animal welfare while bringing the community together, offering a variety of plant-based foods from different vendors. Despite the challenges of promoting vegan options in the United States, where only 1% of the population is estimated to be vegan, the pop-up has been successful in attracting both regular patrons and curious newcomers. The event not only showcases delicious vegan alternatives to traditional dishes but also serves as a platform for Chavez to engage with people about animal rights and veganism. The organizers hope to continue spreading awareness about healthy, plant-based food options and animal welfare through these monthly gatherings.
