A new study reveals that adopting a low-fat vegan diet could save consumers up to $650 annually on grocery bills compared to a standard American diet. The research, published in JAMA Network Open, found significant cost reductions primarily from eliminating meat and dairy, with total food costs dropping by 19% per day. Beyond financial benefits, the study suggests a vegan diet rich in fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans could also improve health outcomes for conditions like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
